She’s bloomin’ fabulous!

She’s bloomin’ fabulous!

When Regina, the stunning and very clever business woman behind the retro skincare, bath and fashion range known as Margarita Bloom, agreed to an interview here on MumptyStyle I must admit, a little squeal of delight might have did occur!

For a while now I’ve admired her wares from afar, and who wouldn’t with packaging like this.

Fairytales bath soap

And this …

Lip balms

Almost too beautiful to use – but use it, you must!

Anyway, firstly let me introduce you to Regina – as I mentioned earlier, Regina is the “Primo Pinup”, aka Head Honcho at Margarita Bloom – it’s her baby, and what a gorgeous baby it is!

Regina – isn’t she STUNNING! And now I see where the hair inspo for Margarita Bloom herself comes from! Or is the other way round?

Rather than do the standard  interview with Regina, I wanted to try and do something a little different.  Regina has already done some fabulous interviews that talk about how she started up, what her inspirations are etc, so I’ve linked them at the end of this post.

Here we go – Mumpty’s Q&A with Regina:

Q1) What’s the coolest thing in your life right now?
The coolest thing in my life?   Well, I’ve kind of had this wish list ever since I was a little girl and it’s been kind of depressing because none of it ever came true!  I was like, when will this happen?!  Then these last few years, a few of the things I had listed started coming true! Just a few basic things like I had horribly frizzy hair when I was a little girl due to a really bad perm so making my hair as non-frizzy as possible was one of them.  I kind of have a bit of OCD about my hair …  (there could be worse things, right? *dimple*) I won’t go out unless it looks really good to me.  It just makes me feel so good about myself and it’s pretty relaxing doing my hair.  My pamper time … I look forward to it every day actually. *wink*

Another wish I had was I wanted to have long nails after having a bad habit of biting them all my life … and that is a hard habit to break let me tell you, but somehow I did it.  I still don’t know how … *dimple*

Losing weight … now this was a big one!  No pun intended! Heehee … I never felt like myself and my self-confidence was so low. When I lost almost 30lbs it was like a heavy weight had been lifted from me … OMG, here I go with the puns again! *giggle*  Really, I have never felt more like myself or had my self-confidence be so high in my entire life!  And healthy! I eat healthier and smarter but always indulge a bit. You’ve got to have that Ghirardelli White Chocolate every once in a while, ya know! *dimple*

Now, the other coolest thing that was also on my wish list was to have a pet!  Ever since I was a little girl I had wanted a kitten or a puppy – I wasn’t picky!  I just wanted something to cuddle and give lots of kisses to.  I didn’t think this was ever going to happen to be honest.  As time went by, I always had some excuse as to why I couldn’t have a pet and then wouldn’t you know it … fate had other plans for me this year!

I was adopted by a sweet little orange tabby … yes, he adopted me! He literally was delivered to my front door! I’m not even kidding.  His name is Zeus!  I’ve had him for about 2 to 3 months now and it’s been surreal getting used to having him around, researching and learning everything I can about kittens, making sure he’s happy and all that good stuff.  He’s SO sweet! But very energetic. I play tag with him … yes, we play tag!  He runs around and play-jumps on me (no claws … he learned fast that mommy has sensitive skin!) and I chase him around … back and forth we go.  OMG, who needs cardio when you have a kitten!!  Heehee … I love him so much!

There’s more on my list; a dream trip to Paris, London, Austria, (New Zealand now!!); moving into a home I truly love … but those haven’t come true yet, so these are pretty much the coolest things that have happened to me lately.

Q2) You’ve stated that Margarita Bloom is your “glamorous alter-ego.” Does having an alter-ego like Margarita inspire you to smash through any personal inhibitions or doubts you may have and set your aspirations higher and higher?  (‘Cos if so, I want a glamorous alter-ego too!)

Margarita Bloom explained

When I started my company she was everything I wanted to be … I hadn’t lost my weight yet so I would daydream about being this glamorous girl who was everything I wanted to be.  When I accomplished some of those wishes on that wish list I told you about in your first question, it was like I had become her … well, minus being a millionaire! Ha – still waiting for that to happen but I know I’d be just darling at it!  *wink*

I had never posted a photo myself until just a few years ago up on Facebook because of my lack of self-confidence and when I finally did post a selfie, it was kind of funny because everyone thought from all my Facebook posts that I had to be a much older person and they were like whoa, you’re younger than I thought you were! Lol … I guess I have an old soul in a young body.  I also really got fashion obsessed … that’s what I call it. I LOVE fashion.  I mean, like I’m SO obsessed with it and who wouldn’t be after years of not being able to express yourself through clothing because you didn’t feel like … you?!

I decided to hell with my fear of what other people thought about how I looked and decided I was going to do outfit posts up on my blog and collaborations … and to my surprise, I’ve heard nothing but praise and words of love and kindness.  So yeah, I do think I got rid of some of my inhibitions and doubts and it’s one of the reasons why I now sell pretty accessories and clothing in my storenvy shop as well as beauty products. “Glamorous alter-egos” are awesome. *wink*

Q3) If Margarita Bloom were asked to contribute two products to a time capsule to be opened in 100 years, which two products would you choose and why?
Oh boy, that’s a hard one – or maybe an easy one!  Ha! I’d probably choose our Big Mermaid Hair Sea Salt & Sugar Beet Tonic because mermaids are ALWAYS awesome and our Antoinette’s Summer Palace Dead Sea Mud Masque because well … I love Marie Antoinette and of course that dead sea mud might survive the 100 years as long as no air got into right … who knows!!  It would be fun for the peeps 100 years in the future to find out!! Heehee … that Dead Sea Mud is awesome stuff … chock full of minerals and nutrients that help the skin heal from all kinds of skin problems!  It’s one of my favorite products. *wink*Antoinette's_MB
Q4) I read you draw your inspiration from anywhere and everywhere.  I’m a Tudor nerd  OK?  So if I were to place you at Henry VIII’s court as a close friend of Queen Anne Boleyn during the height of her powers over Henry VIII, what type of product do you think that might inspire?  I can’t wait to hear what your fabulous, creative mind will come up with (perhaps a little neck rub?!)  …
Well, I know during that time, the damask rose was a symbol of Henry VIII’s court, so I would imagine she would want to appeal to him with perhaps a damask rose perfume either in liquid or solid form with exotic waxes and rose attars (perfect for a sensual neck rub!!!)  (At that time, only the very wealthy would wear perfume!) Perhaps a body powder richly and boldly scented in damask rose with a touch of sensual musk?  If Anne was anything, she most definitely wasn’t subtle … she spoke her mind freely, so her beauty products would have to be just as bold as her. Q5) You seem so young to have such a fabulous company – I’m wildly impressed that you’ve achieved so much success by doing what you love (and I’m pretty sure there was a tonne of hard work thrown in there too!)  What was it about you that refused to see barriers and instead see the vision of what Margarita Bloom would become?  Any tips for would-be business women out there?
I always wanted to have my own company.  I just knew that was what I was going to do – I don’t think I ever had any doubts about doing it.  I just needed to find a way to do it. When I got my first computer it just became clear that that was how I was going to achieve it.  I didn’t have a clue what I wanted to do at first … just knew I wanted to be the boss! Lol! After doing tons and tons of research, I just found myself considering the idea of having a beauty brand and here I am now with Margarita Bloom!!

Tips? Just keep following your dreams …. no matter how long it takes … follow them and do something that you’re passionate about.  I think I was really inspired from these “girl bosses” mostly; Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, and Coco Chanel. They were women who were wildly successful and did something they loved. I find myself often looking to their quotes (and many others!!) to keep me going and keep inspired. These are some of my favorites.

“In order to be irreplaceable, one must always be different.”
– Coco Chanel

“Success is most often achieved by those who don’t
know that failure is inevitable.”
– Coco Chanel

Coco quote

“Beneath the makeup and behind the smile I am just a girl
who wishes for the world.”
— Marilyn Monroe

“Keep smiling, because life is a beautiful thing and
there’s so much to smile about.”
— Marilyn Monroe

“Sometimes things fall apart so that
better things can fall together”
— Marilyn Monroe

Hollywoodland Collection - Lola Wash 2

“Nothing is impossible, the word itself
says ‘I’m possible!”
— Audrey Hepburn

“The most important thing is to enjoy your life—
to be happy—it’s all that matters.”
— Audrey Hepburn

“I believe in pink. I believe that laughing is the best calorie burner. I believe in kissing, kissing a lot. I believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong. I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is another day and I believe in miracles.”
— Audrey Hepburn

Q6) And lastly, do you have any plans for a New Zealand stockist? Or a visit to New Zealand?  (New Zealand is sooooo beautiful – I’m sure you’d come away with inspiration to burn for new products!)
Holy Hannah, New Zealand is absolutely gorgeous ( I just googled it … haha!) *wink*  While I don’t have any plans to visit right now, I’m totally adding it to my wanderlust list!  So beautiful!!! I would LOVE to have lots of New Zealand stockists – in fact, if anyone reading this would like to stock our pretty potions just click to our site and fill out our form here –  I’m ready whenever you are New Zealand!  Bring it!! *giggle*

You really should be at BananaRama …

You really should be at BananaRama ..

It’s this coming Saturday night folks, and on doing my research, it appears to me that the amazing Lilly Loca has put together yet another brilliant show.  I am devastated to be missing this one as I simply can’t make it this weekend, however next time Lilly puts on a show, I’ll be there with bells (or certainly something sparkly) on!

Lilly Loca’s production company, VavaVoom Productions, is proud to be putting on BananaRama – a burlesque and comedy spectacular.  Lilly describes the show as an opportunity to “get your glad rags on and enjoy an evening of comedy, burlesque and frivolity” – why not, I say!

So let’s have a quick look at the lineup of talent then, hey …

Mark Scott – funny man and Master of Ceremonies.  His profile says he has performed “on a Carribean cruiseship, in a Canadian corporate box, an Adelaide garbage alley and oil towns through Alberta to British Columbia” – I reckon that pretty much qualifies him to put on a damm good show in lil’ ol’ Auckland!

Fanciforia Foxglove – from Wellington.  I LOVE this woman; she is a comedic talent for sure – her special brand of burlesque and comedy “mooched” together make her a crowd favourite, and who wouldn’t love this face?  I believe show-goers will be treated to Fanci’s Lucille Ball-inspired act, of which I am pretty jealous.

Lilly Loca – putting the Va-Va-VOOM into Vaudeville!  Lilly really needs no introduction – suffice to say she’ll knock your socks off with her saucy, sexy sassiness!

Logan Kitney – a standup comedian who does tricks?  He sounds bloody fabulous to me!

Logan Kitney
Dave Danger (Comedian) – I suspect this image may just say it all!

Dave Danger
Dixie Caramel – firstly, can I say – what a great stage name. Secondly, Dixie is an excellent performer – I saw her perform at this year’s Very Vintage Day Out, and very entertaining she was.  Dixie is warming up for her performance at the New Zealand Burlesque Festival in October, and I’m sure she’s got something sweet cooking for BananaRama …

Patty Haag – Patty is apparently “the daughter of a Catholic school girl and a Satanist salesman” so grew up not really knowing who she was.  She says she “ate her way through high school and failed her way through beautician training.”  Her aspiration at the moment is to piggy back off Lilly Loca’s fame so she’s joined Lilly’s troupe of talented performers in an effort to do so!  Lilly says she’s been trying to get rid of her ever since – she sounds PERFECT to me!

The ZacAttack Band is a three piece live jazz band – how fabulous – I do love a good jazz band!  The band features Matt on bass guitar, Daniel on drums and Zac on keys. These three have been playing together regularly this year as part of the musical theatre open mic night, New York Nights.

Lilly’s Bambina Burlesque Academy showgirls are performing too; they’re Auckland’s newest shimmy shakin’ burlesque troupe!  The troupe includes Madam Mutiny, Dusty Ashs, Ms Ruby Rebel and VolaTile and Tia Misu.  Now I’ve seen Madam Mutiny, Ms Ruby Rebel and VolaTile perform and they were awesome (see my review of their performances at Glamilton’s Grand Tease heats here) – the audience is definitely going to love these ladies!

VIP tickets are long gone and actually, I think you’d better get in prettttty quickly in order to get your GA tickets too as there are very few left.

To get your tickets, call the Uxbridge Centre on 09-535 6467. Let’s make sure Lilly Loca gets a SOLD OUT show!

Bananas and Ramas …

Marilyn Thankyou note

While trawling the internet lately, I came across this note from Marilyn to a gentleman who had sent her champagne (we all love gentlemen like that right?!)

I think we should all send more thank you notes.  Go on – make a plan – send four thank you notes or cards between now and the New Year.  I’m going to.

A heart-felt thank you note to whoever is reading this
