Selfie September – Mashup

Selfie September … Mashup

Soooo … it’s the end of Selfie September … I hope you’ve enjoyed this little feature as much as I have enjoyed putting it together!

Here’s a little Selfie September Mashup action for you.

I’d like to thank all of these lovely ladies who submitted their selfies (or whom I begged to submit their selfies!) – you’re  all completely and utterly gorgeous.

In the words of this babe (Miss Glamour La Rue)

Selfie September – Miss Mollie Tov

Selfie September … Miss Mollie Tov

Next up for Selfie September … is the delightful Miss Mollie Tov!

Miss_Mollie_Tov

Miss Mollie Tov says …
“This is my favourite selfie at the moment for several reasons – the first is this is me at work – I love my job because my wonderful boss accepts me for me and allows me to embrace who I am as a person.  This means I can dress how I want to dress, which is awesome.  I dress in pinup  style every day and have blue hair – for this, I am truly grateful.♥♥

Secondly this selfie shows me how far I have come in my pinup journey  to date … a few years ago I wouldn’t have dared to wear this type of outfit on a daily basis, and I certainly couldn’t do my hair like this either.  In the last six months especially, I  have taken to wearing very “girly” colours – I’ve really started to embrace my girlishness and am making a conscious effort to expand the colours in my wardrobe from black, red and blue! ♥♥

Lastly, I love that I have this amazing Jenny skirt by Pinup Girl Clothing in the Mary Blair Lavender Roses and Lips print – how could you not love this really?  It makes me feel like I can conquer the world when I wear it.” ♥♥

Mumpty says …
I’ve loved watching Miss Mollie Tov’s pinup journey thus far – I can tell she’s made an effort to stretch far beyond her comfort zone and has made herself all the happier for it.  Miss Mollie Tov is a battler; she’s not afraid to admit she has some tough times, but she comes through them all with a sassy smile! And a big congratulations for her in ticking off another item off her bucket list; to MC a burlesque show!

Next up for Selfie September … is me!

Mumpty

Mumpty says …
“This selfie is filtered – obviously!  And cropped to get rid of the fuzzy new hair growth that sticks up vertically at the top of my head!

But … I like it!  I took this with my new free camera timer app, and normally I have to take 6,782 selfies before I get one I would even consider uploading, so I thought for a first effort, this was pretty good!

I love black and white images – they just seem that little bit edgier and dramatic, and who doesn’t want to be edgy and dramatic right?!  Well … me actually!  But you know what I meant …

It’s nearly the end of September – I think I have space for two more Selfie September features – will it be you?

Monique says …
“This is one of my favourite selfies because it reminds me of several things;  a beautiful day – amazing light – good company – amazing op-shopping – followed by two really great events!  (The Grand Opening of 19 Black in Hamilton East and the 2016 Classic Museum Calendar Launch.)

Mumpty says …
I LOVE this photo of Miss Monique Sweet; it embodies all that she is – fabulous, quirky, pretty, happy, stylish and fun!  How could you not love her?!

Bethany says …
“This selfie represents the first time I took Halloween “seriously.”  It was also the first time EVER I had taken up to wearing makeup that I had applied and curled my hair (well, shaped it) myself.

I was immensely proud at the time, and it took me some time to achieve – I had even made the fake blood myself.

I like that particular selfie as it took me way out of my comfort zone!”

Mumpty says …
Hahaa … I told you Selfie September wasn’t going to be all about being glamorous!  I love how Beth is busting out of her comfort zone here …

We went to the Amy Winehouse doco ..

We went to the Amy Winehouse doco …
(and here’s what I thought)

Amy

On Thursday night Miss Monique Sweet and I headed off on a lady-date to see the Amy Winehouse documentary at the Lido Theatre.

I love Amy’s music and think her voice is incredible, so I was really interested to see this doco – although I did have a feeling it might make me quite sad, and … I was right!

What an incredible talent – lost to this world FAR too soon.  As Tony Bennett (one of Amy’s idols) said “Life teaches you how to live it if you live long enough.” Unfortunately Amy wasn’t able to control her demons and in the end, her body couldn’t take the treatment she dished it out.

I felt really sorry for her – in a world where she was adored by so many, she really did seem to be quite alone.  Although I don’t want to jump on that particular train, I would just point out that neither of her parents would be in the running for “Parent of the Year” and that husband of her’s certainly did her no favours either.  Having said that, I do realise the documentary is quite a sympathetic portrayal of Amy, and if you look at pictures and footage of her behaviour toward the end of her life, there was some level of personal responsibility that just wasn’t taken.  However, if this documentary is accurate, I feel that a lot of her opportunities to get clean and get her life back on track were taken away from her and she was forced into situations she just wasn’t ready for at the time, and she subsequently turned back to drugs and alcohol as a coping mechanism.

Amy2

One thing that really struck me was how incredibly personal her lyrics were and what a great songwriter she was.  She said “I wouldn’t be able to write nothing that wasn’t directly personal to me … just ‘cos I wouldn’t be able to tell the story right.”  When you see the doco, you’ll see how hugely personal and relevant “Rehab” and “Back to Black” in particular were to her life.

Anyway, I found this documentary to be a very sensitive and intimate portrayal of Amy’s life.  I would highly recommend it … but take along some tissues, ‘cos it’s kinda sad!

Special thanks to Miss Monique Sweet for her most excellent company.

Yours in Amy-appreciation

Selfie September – Michelle

Selfie September … Michelle

Next up for Selfie September is Michelle – a gorgeous friend of mine from years back.

Michelle

Michelle says …
“I was a professional photographer for over 15 years and I love this photo as it always amazes me how angles and lighting are so important and how if you get it right, it’s a lovely photo, get it wrong and your convinced you are not photogenic at all!

Having a lovely photo of yourself makes you feel good and that’s a great feeling! xx”

Mumpty says …
Michelle is an old friend from years back and when this sefie popped up on my newsfeed it made me smile! As Michelle says, she was a photographer for 15 years and she took some gorgeous photos of my sisters and I for our parents’ 40th wedding anniversary – I still love those photos and I’m so grateful to her for capturing those memories for us.

I always knew Michelle was going to make a success of her life and she has (she sells diamonds for a living for goodness sake!) – and it makes me so happy to see the incredible love she has for her gorgeous little boy, who as she says, is “her world.”

Next up for Selfie September is Amber Bambi – isn’t her selfie GORGEOUS?!

Amber Bambi

Amber says …
“Selfie of me realising ..  ahh one more day left of the shop being open! Exciting!”

And because pictures say a thousand words … here’s another:

Amber2

Mumpty says …
As you can see, Amber is a very beautiful, vintage-loving girl with buckets of style!  She and her Mum ran a much-loved vintage shop in Devonport, Viva La Vintage, but she has now decided it’s time for a change.  (You can still buy from her online, or visit her website by clicking here.)

I wish Amber all the luck in the world for whatever she decides to focus her formidable talents on next!

Selfie September … Alexie RicRac

Next up for Selfie September is Alexie RicRac, who sent me this beautiful photo below.

Alexie RicRac for Mumpty Styles' Selfie September

Alexie says …
“Without further ado, my selfie and why it’s my favourite.

Taken back in May, I was experimenting with my makeup: it was the first time I had attempted using an eye shadow as an eye liner (or any kind of eye liner for that matter.)  I had on black lingerie and I looked in the mirror and was completely taken aback at how amazing I looked.

I have never looked in the mirror in my underwear and felt the way I felt that night.  I took photographs of myself in my underwear, and then fully clothed.  This portrait selfie though, I see so much progress: happiness, pride, and acceptance.

People tell me that I’m beautiful and in this picture, make up or not, I can really see it.  I’ve still got a long way to go, and it’s taken me a mighty long time to get here, but I’m happy with where I am.

PS – I SUCK at selfies!  I can’t wait to see everyone’s selfies!!”

Mumpty says …
This is one of the things I love about having a blog – I come into contact with amazing people that I’ve never met in person, but who I think are fabulous anyway.  Alexie’s story made me so proud … good on her – it’s so lovely to hear somebody talking so positively about herself.  PS: And don’t her wings look FABULOUS!

Selfie September – Madam Mutiny

Selfie September … Madame Mutiny

Next up for Selfie September is Madam Mutiny, who sent me two very different photos and they’re both gorgeous.

Madam Mutiny

Madam Mutiny says …
“I saw on your FB a call for submissions for Selfie September and thought I’d send two of my favourites 🙂

The first is a composite selfie.  I’ve recently taken the plunge into the fabulous world of burlesque and it’s been such a whirlwind boost in confidence – both in myself and my post baby body.

The first half of the shot is my first little experience with drag, and the second half is my tired face after filming my application footage for Grand Tease Hamilton, which I was really grateful to compete in!

For me these selfies not only show my journey as a new performer but also the power of makeup to transform and enhance the beauty and soul within.  (Side note: my first drag performance will be on Halloween as part of Disco Bloodbath at Whammy Bar, so excited and nervous!!)

Maree

The second is one of me holding my youngest son (Tiberius) after a rare night out. I’m currently doing Honours in Art History (full time) and juggling two kids, so life is crazy busy.  It’s really rewarding to come home, snuggle up in a bathrobe and have sleepy cuddles.

Mumpty says …
I love the contrast in these two photos; fierce burlesque babe and beautiful soft mum!  A happy woman = a happy mum and I applaud Maree/Madam Mutiny for working so hard to make that happen.
