 Question one:
Tell me something interesting about yourself most people won’t already know.
A:  Something people don’t already know … ohhhh that’s a hard one as I’m pretty open about myself!

I think the biggest thing that will surprise people is that I am a mother – not many people realise this as I tend to keep my daughter away from the public spotlight.

She is my rock and my lifesaver and most of all my biggest inspiration. ❤ ❤

Question two:
Think about your favourite outfit; your favourite pair of shoes; your favourite suspender belt … whatever!  If that particular item in your pinup kit could talk, what story do you think it would be most likely to tell?
A:   My favourite outfit … IF my favourite outfit could talk I think it would tell a story of strength and courage; a story about a woman who, when faced with rock bottom and losing everything, still found the strength to fight her inner demons and get up every morning –  to put on her favourite outfits, do her hair and put on her lippie and face the world with a smile and determination to get back everything she had lost.

Question three:
How is your preparation for the Miss Pinup NZ competition coming along?  Would you like to offer our readers any “teasers” with regard to your particular talent or your outfits for Miss Pinup NZ?
A:  My preparation is coming along slowly … as for teasers, my outfits will be practical yet full of sass and very much me.

I have thought long and hard about each section and what I want to present to the world and I feel each outfit does exactly that. ❤ ❤

Question four:
If you could pick a theme song to walk onto the Miss Pinup stage to, what would it be?
A:   This is easy … my theme song is “Good Golly Miss Molly” by Little Richard – it’s a great upbeat tune.

Question five:
If  you were to win Miss Pinup NZ 2015, how would you most likely celebrate your win from the options below:

a) I’d guzzle champagne through a gold-plated straw and get lightheaded and dizzy with all my friends.
b) Crank up the music and dance like crazy.
c) Enlist a flashmob and dance through the streets wearing your Miss Pinup NZ crown.
d) Take your crown on a road trip, Instagramming your antics all the way!
e) Go to a karaoke bar and sing your own praises.
f) Other (please specify!)

A:  Ummm how would I celebrate?  Oooh … let’s see.

The first thing I would do is Skype my daughter with my crown on 🙂

Then I would take my crown road tripping, Instagramming it all the way, and end the road trip with a 50’s styled Prom in my home town (ideally to coincide with my birthday if it can be arranged! :p )

Question six:
What is your most favourite item in your pinup kit, and why?
A:  My Rago shape wear and Dita Von Teese Von Follies underwear are by far my favourite items in my pinup kit.

For me underwear sets the tone of the day … I love vintage underwear and vintage-inspired underwear – not only does it make me feel sexy and confident, it gives me an amazing silhouette to work with.

And last, but certainly not least …

Question seven:
What are you most hoping to get out of the Miss Pinup NZ 2015 experience?
A:  Oohhhh I’m not sure how to put all my feeling into words.

I think the biggest thing I am wanting to get out of Miss Pinup New Zealand is the opportunity to inspire other pinups not only to go on this amazing journey, but to also become confident in themselves and shine brightly, as I feel there is not enough of this happening in the world.

Miss Opal …

Question one:
Tell me something interesting about yourself most people won’t already know.
A:   have a weird obsession with the paranormal; I read a lot of horror stories and spend way too much time lurking the web for any “true experience” stories.

Although I’m a total non-believer and the closest thing I’ve ever come to having an experience was sleep paralysis, I want to believe 😉

Question two:
Think about your favourite outfit; your favourite pair of shoes; your favourite suspender belt … whatever!  If that particular item in your pinup kit could talk, what story do you think it would be most likely to tell?
A:  Do you want the PG version or the R-rated? 😉 Hah just kidding! – but seriously I don’t have a cute or clever answer for this question!

Question three:
How is your preparation for the Miss Pinup NZ competition coming along?  Would you like to offer our readers any “teasers” with regard to your particular talent or your outfits for Miss Pinup NZ?
A:  It’s a total roller coaster ride that’s all I have to say!

I have some pretty cool tricks up my sleeve I think… but you’ll have to come check it out for yourself!

Question four:
If you could pick a theme song to walk onto the Miss Pinup stage to, what would it be?
A:  Hands down I would pick “Miami Horror – I look to you” ft. Kimbra.

I have no idea why but it was the first song I thought of when I read this question.  It just feels right.

Question five:
If  you were to win Miss Pinup NZ 2015, how would you most likely celebrate your win from the options below:

a) I’d guzzle champagne through a gold-plated straw and get lightheaded and dizzy with all my friends.

d) Take your crown on a road trip, Instagramming your antics all the way!
e) Go to a karaoke bar and sing your own praises.
f) Other (please specify!)

A:  Knowing me I would start at A and progress to E with a little B in the middle!!

Question six:
What is your most favourite item in your pinup kit, and why?
A:  Liquid eye liner, I never leave the house without it!

And last, but certainly not least …

Question seven:
What are you most hoping to get out of the Miss Pinup NZ 2015 experience?
A:  For me this is a personal challenge to overcome my social anxiety and boost my self-esteem. If I can do this I can do anything. ;o)

Pinup Platoon: Bettie Rage

The Pinup Platoon:
Bettie Rage

BettieRage_MPUNZ2015
One of my favourite SUUUUPER-sassy Bettie Rage as Miss Pinup NZ 2015 pics

Most of you will know the ultra-glam and ultra-sassy Bettie Rage, the current reigning Miss Pinup New Zealand.  Mumpty was really excited to talk to Bettie about what she’s done with her time as Miss Pinup New Zealand and what her future plans are.   But before we go anywhere … there’s this:

Bettie Rage_pregnant

Woahhhhh!  A MASSIVE congratulations to Bettie and her “man-thing” as she so affectionately refers to her partner! We CANNOT WAIT see this beautiful little baby of yours when he/she arrives!

So now to a few quick questions about your Miss Pinup NZ year …

Q: What impact has being Miss Pinup New Zealand 2015 had on your life?
A: Life has carried on, all be it a little busier – trying to balance running the diner, all the while attending events and MPUNZ duties.   But I still am a little taken aback when people say “Oh! you’re Bettie” or “You won MPUNZ, right?” and I have to remind myself, that oh yeah! I did win that – hahaha!

From your social media presence over the past year, I gather you have two major passions that you’ve put your efforts into supporting and promoting; those two passions being the vegan lifestyle and #dontbullymybreed – in support of bull terriers.

Bulldog_Bettie
Q: Why is it so important to you to promote and support these two issues?
A:  Let’s be honest – they’re two things that get a bad rap in life for the wrong reasons.

On the one hand, you have bully breeds that have such a stigma that when caught by certain councils (not just in NZ – internationally as well) they have a no-rehoming policy and the beloved pooches are euthanised on the spot.

These dogs have no voice. I want to help be the voice for the voiceless!

And on the other hand you have the vegan lifestyle.  Now I know there’s the good old running joke of “how do you know if someone is a vegan? Don’t worry they’ll tell you” and this gets thrown around in jest.  When actually, we are just trying to gain awareness and to show there are alternatives.  People are just so far removed from what they eat that they don’t think about it.  This for me, again comes back to animal welfare. It’s the whole reason I decided to change my lifestyle and I want to spread awareness for it.

Bettie_Rage_Vegans

Q: What are your plans for the future with regard to these two passions?
A:  Keep doing what I am doing and try to do more!

It’s a great feeling when something you have said or done strikes a chord in someone else and makes them re-think their choices. That is what it is after all, a choice.

When you think about it, both passions/causes go hand in hand. How is a mistreated dog any different to any other animal, including cows, chickens and pigs etc?

Q: Rather less important in the scheme of the world, but still important to Mumpty’s readers (!) – have you got your outfit planned for that sashay on to the stage to present the crown to Miss Pinup New Zealand 2016?  And if so, any hints about what we can expect?
A:  Well, that has proven quite difficult with the lovely little beach ball growing rapidly at my waist – haha!

At this stage all I can say is that I will be wearing a creation by Linda McCarthy Costumier on stage for handing over my title as MPUNZ 2015. xx

Q: Is there anything you can tell our current MPUNZ contestants that you wish you’d known before the “Big Day?”
A:  How rushed you will feel on the day! But honestly, just go with it and try to be where you need to be, when you need to be there.

And don’t stress too much about the little things. HAVE FUN and OWN IT!

Thank you so much Bettie Rage – I wish you all the very best for the remainder of your year as Miss Pinup NZ and for the exciting new life you are about to embark on as a mama!  Look forward to seeing you at The Very Vintage Day Out.

And I’ve sneakily added this new compilation pic that Bettie has released – because – OMG smokin’ hot mama!!!

Question one:
Tell me something interesting about yourself most people won’t already know.
A:  For most of my childhood I grew up on a farm and was a show jumper with my gorgeous pony, My Red Knight.

I remember getting up on Sunday’s with Mum at 4am to go riding.  McDonald’s hot chocolates and hash browns was a breakfast tradition!

Question two:
Think about your favourite outfit; your favourite pair of shoes; your favourite suspender belt … whatever!  If that particular item in your pinup kit could talk, what story do you think it would be most likely to tell?
A:    Well, my treasured Straitjacket would probably sing all of the rock songs I’ve ever performed while wearing it and my very first red pinup wiggle dress that I got from a second-hand store in Newmarket would boast about how it introduced me to the beautiful world of Pinup and Vintage culture!

Question three:
How is your preparation for the Miss Pinup NZ competition coming along?  Would you like to offer our readers any “teasers” with regard to your particular talent or your outfits for Miss Pinup NZ?
A:  Hmm well I’ve got the main part of my outfits ready so now for the fun part of accessorising!

As for the talent section, I will be performing an old favourite of mine. 😉

Question four:
If you could pick a theme song to walk onto the Miss Pinup stage to, what would it be?
A:  Rebel Rebel by David Bowie and Cherry Bomb by The Runaways would be a sure way to have some fun, which is what it’s all about!

A:  Definitely A and B … give me champagne, music and a pinup crown and I would be one happy lady!

Question six:
What is your most favourite item in your pinup kit, and why?
A:  Ooh definitely my Kat Von D eyeliner pen – as long as I have my wings, I can take on the day!

And last, but certainly not least …

Question seven:
What are you most hoping to get out of the Miss Pinup NZ 2015 experience?
A:  To get to know all of these gorgeous and inspiring pinup ladies is something that I will forever treasure.

The open-mindedness and passion for creativity amongst the pinup culture is something I so admire and couldn’t imagine life without.

I definitely plan to collaborate with many of the pinups, photographers and stylists etc that I’ll meet through Miss Pinup NZ and become an avid part of pinup in NZ – and one day, maybe even worldwide!

Fran Robertson …

Question one:
Tell me something interesting about yourself most people won’t already know.
A: I am an active member of Scouts New Zealand, and have been involved in the organisation for over 20 years now!

I started when I was a kid, and, well, I guess I just never left!  I’m currently predominately involved in the Rover Section, which is a group of 18-26 year olds, with a strong focus on community service and self-development.

Throughout my ‘scouting career’ I have been a leader, or assistant leader, with all age groups, as well as being on numerous event organising committees, and holding various voluntary roles within the organisation.

I love having the opportunity to try new things, and meet new people, as well as being able to give back to an organisation that has shaped so much of who I am!

Question two:
Think about your favourite outfit; your favourite pair of shoes; your favourite suspender belt … whatever!  If that particular item in your pinup kit could talk, what story do you think it would be most likely to tell?
A:   I think my favourite outfit – as silly as it might seem – would have to be my wedding dress.  I had all of these plans for a supremely elegant, yet slightly alternative dress, and had started making it months in advance, but I just couldn’t find the motivation to finish it.

It wasn’t until just before the big day that I realised I hadn’t been able to finish it because it just didn’t feel like me, you know?  So I stayed up until 1am, the night before the wedding, and made something fun, and quirky, and colourful, and I couldn’t have been happier with it!

It just screams “Fran” and every time I wear it, it reminds me of the importance of always being authentically “me’” and to never let myself feel pressured into being anything I’m not!

Fran_Wedding
Question three:
How is your preparation for the Miss Pinup NZ competition coming along?  Would you like to offer our readers any “teasers” with regard to your particular talent or your outfits for Miss Pinup NZ?
A:  Well, I’m usually a big fan of leaving things to the last minute (I know, I know!) but this has been a really good motivator for me to try and break away from that mindset!

I’ve made a timeline, sketched out all my plans, and started sewing, so I’m well on-track to get everything finished in time!

As far as teasers, well, I guess it’s no surprise that my outfits will be exceptionally colourful, and a little over-the-top.  Among other things, I make weird and wonderful costumes for a living, so everything I do is a tad eccentric … I can’t imagine that this competition will be any different!

Question four:
If you could pick a theme song to walk onto the Miss Pinup stage to, what would it be?
A:  “False Eyelashes” by the one and only Dolly Parton!

It’s a bit of a tale of woe actually – all about a girl who moved to the big city to make it in the music business, and doesn’t want to tell her family that she’s ended up just singing in a crappy dive bar.

Despite the somewhat depressing message hitting a touch close-to-home sometimes, its pretty spectacular… and there have definitely been times where it’s resonated with me!

A:   Hands down, an Instagram roadie would be my pick!

Visiting my friends and family up and down the country, and being able to thank them all for their love and support over the course of the competition … well, I honestly can’t think of anything better!

Question six:
What is your most favourite item in your pinup kit, and why?
A:   Big ol’ cliché alert right here, but a damn good attitude.

There’s nothing more empowering than feeling confident, and people will always gravitate towards someone who is enjoying themselves, so you’ll never have trouble making friends in our community if you make the effort to be positive and enthusiastic!

And last, but certainly not least …

Question seven:
What are you most hoping to get out of the Miss Pinup NZ 2015 experience?
A:  I’ve spent the better part of the last five years building up my business, leaving very little time to build myself up, so I see this competition as an opportunity to work on me!

I have a few self-development goals that I’m focusing on at the moment – learning to be brave, as well as being (and having) more fun – so I’m really hoping that I can try to fulfil those!

Of course, in a more superficial sense, I’m also really thrilled to have an excuse to make a bunch of new outfits!

Pinup Platoon: Moxie Mama – Esme Sutton

The Pinup Platoon:
Moxie Mama – Esme Sutton

Esme_MoxieMama

How gorgeous is this woman?  This, my friends, is Esme Sutton – also known as the Moxie Mama who owns and runs Moxie Mama Wear; your online store for fun and foxy frocks to rock – whether you’re knocked up or not!

So firstly I’d just like to thank Esme for being this year’s Pinup Platoon major sponsor.  Esme has donated the stunner of an emerald cocktail dress you can find later in this post,  so make sure you check out the details below to find out how you can win.

Riiiight … so here’s my opportunity to talk to Esme – a little bit about herself (because I always love to know the person behind the local business we are supporting) and about Moxie Mama Wear as well of course.

Esme
I love Esme’s infectious smile – she always looks to me like she’s got something naughty planned and I love that!

Mumpty: You describe yourself as a hard-working mama and a self-confessed clothes horse.  Sounds familiar!  What made you decide to add yet another string to your bow and create Moxie Mama Wear?
Esme:  I previously worked in a fast-paced corporate environment for several years as a Personal Assistant and was very close to burnout when I got pregnant for the second time.

I’d just gotten serious about my frock and heel addiction and was thrilled to have found the pinup & rockabilly scene in Auckland. (The Very Vintage Day Out blew my mind!)  So in July 2014, with a desire to be my own boss, a passion for frocks and a determination to source clothes for women to shine and feel empowered in – Moxie Mama Wear was born.

Being a mama was all the motivation I needed to source foxy maternity wear (no more boring tents!) and gorgeous and affordable dresses to feel amazing in (spandex is our friend!)

I now have two wee gypsy kings, work from home and I LOVE it! It’s been A LOT of late nights,  steely determination and the loving support of my man, but I really get a kick out of making women feel like the heavenly creatures they are.

Mumpty:  Tell me something interesting about yourself most people probably won’t already know.
Esme:  As a teenager I was a late bloomer and so painfully self-conscious that I look back now and regret not being brave and wearing what complimented my body or rocking anything that remotely drew attention to myself or my curves.

By the time I was in my mid-twenties I was confident, but still in awe of those who could be comfortable naked. So upon moving to London for adventure, I jumped at the chance to get out of my comfort zone and posed naked with 500 others for a Spencer Tunick human art installation called ‘Be Consumed’ at London’s famous department store Selfridges (image below).  Needless to say it was a total mind trip I (or my retinas) will never forget and getting naked is no longer an issue for me!

Naked

Mumpty: What’s your favourite part of the job?
Esme:  I won’t lie – it’s partly the shopping!

I’m totally mainlining that new dress buzz or instant euphoria hit you get from feelin’ sassy in 4 inch stilettos (5 inch is just a death wish with my vertigo!)

And like I said, I’m a total frock addict who is very much working to support her habit!  But in all honesty, I do get a real warm fuzzy when all my hard work pays off and some babe tells me they are so relieved to have finally found something that fits or that they feel so good they could cry! Thats the gold for me.

Bettie_Moxie
The gorgeous Bettie Rage wearing a leopard print dress from Moxie Mama Wear.

Mumpty: What’s Moxie Mama Wear’s point of difference?  Where do you shine?
Esme:  I go to great efforts to source and handpick items that are quality, affordable and versatile.

I am also happy to go the extra mile to ensure a good fit, fast delivery and no fuss returns.

All of which, I think, are key to providing a reputable brand.  But if there’s one thing I’d like to think I do well, its help the ladies shine and shake what their mama gave them.

Studies have shown what we wear is heavily dependent on our emotional state.  So although I love to sell frocks, I am a firm believer in being truly happy in what you choose to wear.

Mumpty: If you could draw your dream “brand ambassador” for Moxie Mama Wear, what characteristics would you give her?
Esme:
Big ol’ contagious smile with SASS to boot!
Not necessarily a mama, but an appreciation of the “motherload” and its challenges.
Curvalicious, delicious and/or bumpalicious!
Can leap tall buildings in a single bound … (in 5 inch heels – hehehehe)
Works 24/7 with a smile on her dial for frock rocking’ LOVE!

MoxieMamaWear_range
A sample of the stunning range of clothing you’ll find at Moxie Mama Wear.

Mumpty: And last but not least … name five things you would grab if you had to create a pinup kit for a Moxie Mama  …
1) Hair accessories for Africa! Seriously one can never have enough and they both adorn and hide bad hair days!
2) If it’s not already, make shape wear your friend! “Au naturel” is great but shape wear will give you that body confidence boost when you’re bloated and so premenstrual you could kill someone … or eat a small chocolate baby!
3) Spandex blend dresses and high-waisted pants are up there with diamonds as your best friends.
4)  Red lippy is a given, but when you’re a mama with 2-6 hours sleep and serious eye baggage – what you really need is white eyeliner and sellotape to perfect/fake that winged liner.
5) And last but certainly not least – sleep, water and best friends, because let’s face it, you’re screwed without them!

It’s been great fun talking to you Esme – a massive thank you again for sponsoring the Pinup Platoon.

Soon … without further ado; meet the sixth gorgeous pinup in our Pinup Platoon – Miss Pinup NZ Finalist for 2016:

Miss Lola Turquoise …

MissLolaTurquoise2
Question one:
Tell me something interesting about yourself most people won’t already know.
A:  I have had many carnivorous plants over the years. Venus Fly Traps, sundews and pitcher plants.

I currently own a flourishing hanging pitcher plant (which are meant to be hard to grow) and I get great satisfaction in catching blowflies and feeding them to the pitchers!  Yes – I was one of those kids that used to catch flies and pull off their wings and legs – but everyone did that aye?

Question two:
Think about your favourite outfit; your favourite pair of shoes; your favourite suspender belt … whatever!  If that particular item in your pinup kit could talk, what story do you think it would be most likely to tell?
A:   My Rodbenders club jacket, which I got off an ex-club member.

My jacket has travelled around the countryside with me to car events.  It has been party to many a tall tale told and the odd misadventure!

As the saying goes;  “what goes on tour, stays on tour.”  Unless it gets posted on Facebook first – then there may be some explaining to do!

Question three:
How is your preparation for the Miss Pinup NZ competition coming along?  Would you like to offer our readers any “teasers” with regard to your particular talent or your outfits for Miss Pinup NZ?
A:   I am an excellent list writer, but queen procrastinator, so I have lots of things started, but not much finished yet! Everything should come together with a day or two to spare, I expect.

I may get a raised eyebrow or two at the airport for my talent section props, as they’re not what you would normally put in your carry-on …

Question four:
If you could pick a theme song to walk onto the Miss Pinup stage to, what would it be?
A:   Would have to be: “I’m in hotrod heaven with my old ’37” by Larry Faulk.

My Chev is so cool, someone wrote a song about it!  Ok, maybe not MY Chev, but one just as awesome!

A:   B – I would definitely be cranking up the tunes and dancing like I don’t care!

But who am I kidding – I’d be guzzling that champagne too – it’s still classy if the straw is gold-plated!

Question six:
What is your most favourite item in your pinup kit, and why?
A:   My bandana.  Bad hair day? Hide it in a bandana. Blowing a gale outside? Secure your do in a bandana.

Use it as a headband, hair tie, headscarf, necklace, pocket accessory, flag for illegal drag racing 😉

And last, but certainly not least …

Question seven:
What are you most hoping to get out of the Miss Pinup NZ 2015 experience?
A:  I’m looking forward to hanging out with some fantastic lovely ladies, who also love the bygone era.

Proving to myself that I can do anything I set my mind to and seeing where this adventure takes me. 🙂

Question one:
Tell me something interesting about yourself most people won’t already know.
A: I am a dressage rider and have trained and competed up to advanced level on a national level.

Question two:
Think about your favourite outfit; your favourite pair of shoes; your favourite suspender belt … whatever!  If that particular item in your pinup kit could talk, what story do you think it would be most likely to tell?
A: I have a pearl necklace with a diamante skull pendant which I love.  I wore it the night I met my husband and he says that it was one of the first things that caught his eye.  It really does stand out and it says “I’m a bit of a punk but still a lady.”

Question three:
How is your preparation for the Miss Pinup NZ competition coming along?  Would you like to offer our readers any “teasers” with regard to your particular talent or your outfits for Miss Pinup NZ?
A:  At this stage I am feeling rather organised – I have bought all my fabrics and I have started sewing my outfits which is what I love to do and what I am good at, so for me the pressure has not really kicked in yet.

I did have one minor setback early on when my main prop for my talent section broke! It has taken a rather long time to get a new one sent out so that did put me a little on edge, but it’s all sorted now.  As for offering any teasers, all I will say is my talent sure is a CRACKER !

Question four:
If you could pick a theme song to walk onto the Miss Pinup stage to, what would it be?
A:  “Puttin’ On the Ritz” by Fred Astaire.

A:  Celebratory drinks would definitely be in order straight afterwards! Then I think the tiara will stay firmly on my head for some time! Who knows … I may even wear it to work at the Quarry!!

Question six:
What is your most favourite item in your pinup kit, and why?
A:  Definitely my XO Beauty false lashes, they are sooooo comfy and natural feeling! I wear them everyday without fail!

And last, but certainly not least …

Question seven:
What are you most hoping to get out of the Miss Pinup NZ 2015 experience?
A: When I decided to enter MPUNZ I was hoping for a challenge and an opportunity to step outside my comfort zone and do something unlike anything I’ve done before. So far the experience has definitely done that for me and I look forward to what lies ahead.

Pinup Platoon: Adele – Pinned on You

The Pinup Platoon:
Pinned on You – Adele

Adele
Adele – the smiling face behind Pinned on You.

This fabulous woman is Adele Shoebridge, owner of Pinned on You and purveyor of quirky and oh-so-covetable AND collectible items from Erstwilder and Deer Arrow.  She is also one of the sweetest people I’ve never met but I am looking forward to remedying that at The Very Vintage Day Out!

So firstly I’d just like to thank Adele for being one of the Pinup Platoon’s sponsors.  Adele has donated the Deer Arrow snow globe and the Erstwilder Pinup Picnic brooches – they are SO COOL, so make sure you check out the details below to find out how you can win one.

OK … so back to Adele – because I love to know the people behind the local businesses we are supporting.

Adele_Erstwilder
Oscar Wildenfox – one of my favourite, quirky Erstwilder characters.

Mumpty:
Pinned on You is a sideline (and what a fabulous sideline!) for you.  What do you do for your “real job”?!
Adele: I work for Government, providing legal administration support to a wonderful group of solicitors here in Auckland.

I love my job and it is a privilege to be able to serve my country and the people of New Zealand.  I have worked for Government for almost 16 years (that’s almost all of my working life) – not in the same role or Ministry though.  I really enjoy the challenge my role brings.

Mumpty:  Tell me something interesting about yourself most people probably won’t already know.
Adele:   Something interesting … I guess it would have to be that I am a fully qualified travel consultant.

I decided that’s what I wanted to do when I finished high school, I studied hard and qualified, had a few short-term roles with Air New Zealand and Intercity but decided that it just wasn’t what I enjoyed doing.

Then one day an opportunity came up to work in the public legal sector, and shall we say the rest is history.

Mumpty: You’re working in a pretty competitive environment and I just wanted to let everyone know that your customer service is SECOND TO NONE!  My little Erstwilder collection is growing slowly but steadily, and I just received my first Deer Arrow piece (a pink ballerina – eeeep!!!) – you have been amazing to deal with; any purchase I’ve made has arrived so fast and has come packaged beautifully with so much attention to detail (check out my review of one of my first pieces from Adele, The Coming of the Fox!)

Adele_DeerArrow
Beautiful little classic cars from Deer Arrow – LOVE these colours!

With such awesome customer service, I assume this is not just a business to you, but something you really love.  What’s the best part about owning Pinned on You?
Adele:   Awwwh you are so lovely, thank you for your lovely words.

The best part of owning Pinned on You are people like yourself – our customers, supporters, likers  who ever you are!

Just being able to share something that I really love and enjoy with people is a real pleasure.  I love meeting and talking (lots and lots of talking!) to you all, and photos! I love to see how you all rock your awesome pieces.

Those things for me are something that I love about my business, because without you all, I would not be here.

Mumpty: What are your plans for Pinned on You?  Taking over the world one shiny, quirky character at a time or just cruisin’ with what you’re doing now?
Adele:  I think at the moment I’m kind of in the middle – I don’t think I would enjoy brooch world domination (hahaha) – at the moment I am just enjoying what I do and just I’m just letting things flow along.

Mumpty: If you could choose any celebrity in the world to endorse Pinned on You … a) who would it be?  b) why them?  and c) which piece would you want them to wear for their red-carpet Pinned on You experience?
Adele:
a)  I’m not really a big celebrity kind of person … I know this might sound cheesy, but we are all celebrities in our own little way.  We might not have our photos published in glossy magazines or headlines in newspapers, but everyone is special and famous in their own world and that is something we need to celebrate more – our everyday celebrities.

But I guess if I had to choose one person in the world it would have to be:
Col. Chris Hadfield – Astronaut – and the first Canadian to walk in space and command the International Space Station;  musician, writer, teacher and all round top gentleman.

b)  This is another thing that most people don’t know about me – I love space!

And being able to follow the amazing journey that Col. Hadfield had been on (as it happened live thanks to web cams set up on the international space station and via NASA link-ins) during his recent expedition to the International Space Station, was magical.

I learnt so much about his time in space and what it was actually like for him.  Col. Hadfield made the astronaut and space life experience more accessible for those of us who can only gaze at the stars and wonder.

He is also an amazing musician and even recorded one of my favorite David Bowie songs “Space Oddity” in the International Space Station.

If you get a chance you should check out his album “Beyond the Terra” and the music video for his recording of “Space Oddity”

c)  I would have to pick Erstwilder’s “Spike the Space Dog” to keep in with the space theme, plus Spike has a Cosmonaut look and all Astronauts who are journeying to and from the International Space Station take a ride in a Soyuz space capsule/ space craft (which of course is Russian.)SpaceDog

Mumpty: And last but not least … name five things that make you smile …
1) Coming home each day from work to my boy in fur pyjamas Charlie Schnauzer (as seen below) – he makes my heart sing!
2) My family – my biggest cheerleaders and number one supporters.
3) My friends, especially my Schnauzer buddies (you know who you are!) and work friends.
4) A compliment always makes me smile
5) A naughty joke or re-telling of a funny situation that a friend has found themselves in!

Schnauzer
I’m seeing a theme here!

It’s been great fun talking to you Adele – again, a massive thank you again for sponsoring the Pinup Platoon.
Adele: You are more than welcome, it has been my pleasure 🙂 Thank you so much.

Soon … without further ado; meet the fourth gorgeous pinup in our Pinup Platoon – Miss Pinup NZ Finalist for 2016:

Zigana Monroe …

Zigana_Monroe2Question one:
Tell me something interesting about yourself most people won’t already know.
A:  I have a BA degree in Psychology from Massey University.  I find the study of mind and behaviour fascinating and I would love to do more in the future.

Question two:
Think about your favourite outfit; your favourite pair of shoes; your favourite suspender belt … whatever!  If that particular item in your pinup kit could talk, what story do you think it would be most likely to tell?
A:   My favourite shoes by Betsey Johnson have been on this Pinup journey with me so far.  They are beautiful heels, made with blue satin, sparkles and bows, and the bottom of the shoe is covered in satin leopard print.

I wore them to my first Very Vintage Day Out where I discovered this amazing world of Pinup.

So I think the shoes would say they want to be a part of the legacy of the strong, intelligent, and beautiful inspiring women that we saw on stage that day.  Since then I wore them in my first Pinup pictures and I can’t wait to see where they will take me next.

Question three:
How is your preparation for the Miss Pinup NZ competition coming along?  Would you like to offer our readers any “teasers” with regard to your particular talent or your outfits for Miss Pinup NZ?
A:  I am really enjoying the process of putting my ideas together. I have a Pinterest board and sketches of what I want to do for my outfits.  I also have many notes on my phone that I have been adding to when I have a creative brain wave.

Hmmm should I be a tease?

My outfits will include some reproduction, vintage pieces, and some beautiful jewellery lent to me by my grandma (Micah).   My talent will incorporate some singing but you will have to come watch to know any more!

Question four:
If you could pick a theme song to walk onto the Miss Pinup stage to, what would it be?
A:  It Depends On The Mood I’m In” by Jem and the Holograms.

I love it because it is about being who you want to be and dressing up how you want.  Jen was a 1980’s animated TV show, but it has had a lasting impression on me.

A:  I would probably sing and dance in my heels and tiara with a cider in hand, surrounded by new and old friends!

I love taking photos so there will probably be a few Instagram pics along the way.

Question six:
What is your most favourite item in your pinup kit, and why?
A:  High heeled shoes!

I am very short and I feel more confident and glamorous when I have a gorgeous pair of shoes to help me look a bit taller.   However, what I think is an essential in a pinup kit is bobby pins and pin curl clips.

A lot of ladies wear lipstick or even flicked eyeliner without looking pinup or vintage.  Vintage-style hair for me definitely makes the pinup look come together.

And last, but certainly not least …

Question seven:
What are you most hoping to get out of the Miss Pinup NZ 2015 experience?
A:   Most of all, I want to make some friends and get to know more people with similar interests.  I also love the journey as I can get creative and put together my vision of what I want to present at Miss Pinup New Zealand 2016.

It was my goal to put an application forward to be considered for a spot in Miss Pinup NZ as I have always been a bit self-conscious and held myself back from some opportunities because of fear.

Now that I am in the competition it is a whole other level of courage, but I am going to give it my best shot and hopefully make my family, friends and myself proud.

Zigana_Monroe3Thank you so much Zigana – it’s been fantastic chatting with you – best of luck with your aspirations for Miss Pinup NZ 2016.
