In association with Moxie Mama Wear and Pinned on You, Mumpty is running a feature entitled The Pinup Platoon during the month of March. The Pinup Platoon features interviews with all ten Miss Pinup NZ 2016 finalists, together with some other exciting content on the days where it’s not a contestant interview day.
AND … we have a competition where you can win not one, not two, but THREE fabulous prizes … to find out all about it, see the details at the end of this interview with the wonderful Miss Lola Fondant.
Soooo … without further ado; meet the third gorgeous pinup in our Pinup Platoon – Miss Pinup NZ Finalist for 2016:
Miss Lola Fondant …
Tell me something interesting about yourself most people won’t already know.
A: I’m a total geek! I love fantasy, faries, mythical beings, magical powers and fairy tales. Give me a movie with a warlock fighting a unicorn and I’m in!
Think about your favourite outfit; your favourite pair of shoes; your favourite suspender belt … whatever! If that particular item in your pinup kit could talk, what story do you think it would be most likely to tell?
A: My favourite item would be this fantastic vintage velvet cloak I inherited and oh I wish I knew the stories she would tell!
I bet she has been some fantastic places, met some wonderful people and been to some glamorous parties. I’m sure her stories would start with something along the lines of “In my day…”
How is your preparation for the Miss Pinup NZ competition coming along? Would you like to offer our readers any “teasers” with regard to your particular talent or your outfits for Miss Pinup NZ?
A: Well I’d love to give you all the juicy details but this lady has to keep some things a mystery…
I will tell you, however, that I’ve designed all my outfits and selected two different NZ designers to make two of my outfits and the other two I will be making myself, with guidance from a very nice friend.
I’ve tried hard to show myself in my outfits and have my own style incorporated into each of them.
If you could pick a theme song to walk onto the Miss Pinup stage to, what would it be?
A: That’s so hard – my music tastes vary so much. Though it would probably have to be Jolie Coquine by Caravan Palace. The lyrics aren’t particularly clear which I think is one of the reasons it’s quite fitting – I don’t always explain myself very clearly but I’m fun and upbeat and a little bit quirky, which is exactly the entire feel of this song.
It also blends the modern with the classic which is a line I am constantly trying to merge – not just with style but with my view on the world. It was also the first modern swing song I stumbled across many years ago before I started dressing pinup.
I would crank it up even though I was surrounded by all my metal friends. Which – thinking back – makes me giggle a bit: so unapologetically me.
If you were to win Miss Pinup NZ 2015, how would you most likely celebrate your win from the options below:
a) I’d guzzle champagne through a gold-plated straw and get lightheaded and dizzy with all my friends.
b) Crank up the music and dance like crazy.
c) Enlist a flashmob and dance through the streets wearing your Miss Pinup NZ crown.
d) Take your crown on a road trip, Instagramming your antics all the way!
e) Go to a karaoke bar and sing your own praises.
f) Other (please specify!)
A: Food! Why was food not an option?!
I think once I regained my ability to stand, I would love to have a celebratory picnic with my fabulous fellow contestants, all my other pinup pals and my son and partner. Wearing my crown of course…
What is your most favourite item in your pinup kit, and why?
A: Ooooh, I need everything! Probably my hot rollers – as a mum of a demanding two-year-old, being able to quickly put in my hot rollers for a quick, easy set is essential.
And last, but certainly not least …
What are you most hoping to get out of the Miss Pinup NZ 2015 experience?
A: For me getting on stage in front of lots of people and judges is a very terrifying thought so doing this competition is a massive challenge for me. I’m really hoping for that feeling of achievement for facing that fear and hopefully becoming a stronger, more confident woman.
Being able to teach my son not to let fears get in the way of doing something you really want to do (besides flying – not looking forward to taking him to the hospital with a broken arm thinking he can fly!)
I’ve also been so lucky to make a wonderful friend in the competition already and I hope I will get to know some of the other ladies like that as well.
Thank you so much Miss Lola Fondant – it’s been fantastic chatting with you – best of luck with your aspirations for Miss Pinup NZ 2016.
