Well, well, well – it’s been quite a while since I posted here on MumptyStyle … I’ve been a busy little thing! Sooo … in order to right that wrong, I decided to kick things off again with a good old MumptyLoves. So let’s get into it!
♥ My new Paris Jenny dress by Pinup Girl Clothing
Who wore it better – Doris or Mumpty? Haahhaaa … I know it was Doris, but still – it is a GREAT dress and I love it to bits. One feels a bit like a princess in it, and really – I think it needs to be worn in Paris right? Goals …
♥ The Balm – The Manizer Sisters palette
I’m going to share the love again for this little palette because it really is the.bee’s.knees. I use it every single day and wouldn’t be without it. For a while – before they did the palette and I got all three – I was really confused about which of the Manizers to get, but now I know for sure – it’s Cindy. The others are beautiful, don’t get me wrong, it’s just that Cindy rules and I hit pan on her waaaaay before the other two. Also, the review post I did on this palette seems to get loads of views and that is exciting!
♥ Maybelline Lust for Blush lipstick
I got this in a Beauty Box from Makeup Obsessives (you can read about them here) and oh.em.gee – it is THE BEST! I like to think of it as one of those “your own lip colour but better” colours. Now I might be being overly optimistic about my own lip colour but look – if you can get your mitts on it – do it! You won’t regret it.
♥ These pics …
This picture … whilst it’s a pretty terrible one of me, it is gorgeous one of my beautiful friend, Miss Monique Sweet, at she and Sam’s engagement party recently. I love it because it’s so happy. (Thank you wonky belt – you really add that something special to my look.)
And speaking of happy … here is one of the happy couple:
And … their engagement cake – how cool is that?!
♥ The Cherry Dollface
The Cherry Dollface. Because she’s just cool. And I am SERIOUSLY jealous of that “do” of her’s. And … she travels the world doing pinup hair and makeup and that’s not the worst job in the world is it? And also, she was cool enough to agree to an interview about Nerdy Tudor Stuff with me and I love her for that!
♥ The obligatory Louboutins …
Yes – every MumptyLoves MUST have a pair of Louboutins. And here they are – the Soustelissimo.
These shoes make Mumpty’s little heart sing. Because:pink. Because:heel. Because:flash of red sole. Because: gold glitter. Because:hot pink patent. Dear God.
What’s making your heart sing this week?
In this, the last MumptyLoves for 2015, I show you some of the things I’ve been loving lately …
♥ My new liquid eyeliner by Za
I was lucky enough to receive this liquid eyeliner in a Beauty Box from Kirsty at Makeup Obsessives, and, may I just say; it is SUPERB! It makes winged eyeliner a breeze – it glides on so easily, has a very fine tip so you can get those wings perfect, is a very deep black and then, to top it all off, it stays on super-well. Perfecto, right?!
♥ Natalie ballet flats in mint
These fab little shoes were an absolute lifesaver just this week – I went Christmas shopping in the local mall and thought I had my trusty Fairy Feet in my bag; but unfortunately I didn’t. I thought I could tough it out in the heels I was wearing, but I soon realised that wasn’t going to happen! So off I teetered in my heels on the slippery floor (why do they do that at malls by the way?) and found myself at Number One Shoes – and these little Natalie flats were only $19.99 – bargain with a capital B! Since their life-saving debut, I have worn them nearly every day and not only are they comfortable and practical, they are also cute as hell. I believe they may soon find themselves accompanied by their lemon, lilac and silver-coloured cousins!
I met Trillian for the first time backstage at Cirlesque and she is brilliant – I absolutely LOVED her 20’s flapper performance that night and she is just an all-round great girl. Trillian describes herself as a dancer, singer, fitness instructor/awesomeness coach, choreographer and model. Also, she is one half of The Ballet School Dropouts! You can find out more about her at www.verticallyawesome.com or follow her on Facebook by clicking the link above.
♥ This cardy …
I have many of these cardigans from Pinup Girl Clothing, but this is my favourite and it’s also the one I get the most compliments on. It’s probably a little less red, and a little more orange than the picture suggests. It’s pretty.
♥ These Christmas tree decorations …
HOW COOL ARE THESE?! I am a right little Tudor nerd so these are HUGE on my want list! The Cherry Dollface has them and I am super-jealous! Come hell or high water, they will adorn our tree next year! You can get them here if you want them too!
♥ Books …
There are so many books I want to read and I CANNOT wait for our holiday when I can do just that!
Highly recommended: ♥ Book Club Christmas functions;
♥ my Makeup Obsessives admin team; ♥ my recent GRWM; ♥ Seeing Polly Filla’s dress-making posts – so clever; ♥ the results of our recent house-washing antics; ♥ proud Mummy moments; ♥ it being so close to Christmas and therefore; ♥ Christmas lunch at Mum and Dad’s.
♥ And lastly, the obligatory Louboutins …
Because it wouldn’t be a MumptyLoves without a pair, now would it?!
These are the Corafront Ballerina in Shocking Patent – I am having a bit of a love affair with ballet flats at the moment and I just LOVE the contrast of the hot pink heart with the pinky nude. Get on my feet!
And because I can, I’m doing two pairs. The second are these:
Good grief. These are the New Very Prive – isn’t that ombre kind of look just stunning.
What are your favourite things lately?
Loving the good things in life …
So because shoes are of interest to moi, I decided to do a post on the five most iconic shoes that I can think of.
And this is it. Number one is …
Cinderella’s glass slipper
One of the most famous fairy tales ever – and probably Mumpty’s favourite – is based partly on a pair of shoes. How apt! Anyway … Cinderella’s crystal slippers are most certainly amongst the most iconic shoes in the world. For the 2015 Cinderella movie, Swarovski created the above glass slipper for actress Lily James to wear when she snared her prince. Here’s a more detailed shot:
Disney fulfilled many a shoe lover’s dreams by commissioning several of the world’s leading shoe designers to create their version of the Cinderella slipper.
Here are the versions by Nicholas Kirkwood and Christian Louboutin.
And would you just LOOK at the heels on the Ferragamo version?
Next .. Dorothy’s ruby slippersThese shoes became famous when they appeared in the 1939 MGM movie, The Wizard of Oz. They are now amongst the most valuable and coveted pieces of movie memorabilia ever, with one pair selling in 2011 for $510,000!
As with all important movie props, there were several pairs made – the exact number is not known, but five pairs are known to have survived; one of those pairs was stolen and has never been recovered.
Ironically, in the original Wizard of Oz novel, Dorothy’s slippers were silver, but MGM changed them to red to take advantage of the new Technicolour film process.
Does anyone know of a local Glamilton gal who would most likely KILL for these shoes? I’m looking at you Miss Bettsy Rose Lee!
I’m very much liking the bubble-gum pink patent, and the olive with studs. Not really suitable for work though are they?!
Then we have Louboutin’s classic black, red-soled pump …
As modelled here by the ridiculously gorgeous, Dita Von Teese. If that’s what these shoes do for you, mortgage the damm house!
Louboutin has done several versions of the classic black pump; but probably the most well-known and the most sexy (and the most-wanted in Mumpty’s shoe wardrobe!) is the Pigalle in black patent leather. How smokin’ hot are these?!
So how did Louboutin’s iconic red soles come about? It is believed the red sole was born more out of accident than design. One afternoon, a prototype Louboutin was working on just didn’t “pop.” An assistant was painting her nails at the time, so Louboutin grabbed her nail polish and painted the sole of the prototype red – and this became his trademark. Louboutin says “Red means love, passion, blood.”
And lastly, the Mary-Jane …
The Mary-Jane is an American term used to describe a closed, low-cut shoe with one or more straps across the instep. Originally they were worn by both sexes!
Although they were initially associated with younger girls, Mary-Janes these days are worn by thousands of women the world over. Mumpty loves them because they’re cute, sexy and most of all, easy to walk on! The ankle strap makes them secure; believe me, there’s nothing less sexy and more worrying than wearing shoes that just aren’t easy to walk on!
These Mary Jane Chocolitas are for big and little girls alike!
So that is Mumpty’s list of what I consider, the top five iconic shoes.
Shoes, shoes, shoes. No matter how chubby (or otherwise!) I might be feeling; my shoes always fit and they I love them for that!
By the way, Mumpty is also a handbag fanatic – click here to read her pick of the five iconic handbags.
Loving ALL.THE.SHOES …
(well, in my opinion anyway!)
I know, I know – I’ve included these shoes before! But you know what? I’m going to include them again, because they are just sooooo darling!
Obviously these shoes and their ilk are out of most pinup’s budget (other than Dita’s of course!) Soooo for those of us who have to get by on something a little less salubrious, I have put together a wee list of what I think makes a good pinup shoe wardrobe.
Please note: I am trying to be non-biased here and am including shoes that I actually think are slightly ugly (I’m looking at you B.A.I.T !) but in a funny way I really love them!
Anyway – let’s hop to it:
You definitely need these – and the more the merrier in my opinion! Heels make your legs look longer, dress your dresses up and impart a certain sassy confidence to the wearer. They can also be a right pain to wear all the time, and I must admit, some days I think to myself “really, heels again … nooooooo.” But 9 times out of 10, I put them on and off I go!
As I said, the more the merrier really, but there are some staples that I highly recommend you get:
Some patent numbers; black and red preferably.
If you get half a chance, throw in a gorgeous emerald or apple green pair if you can … so versatile. I LOVE the Mary Jane style of the red pair of shoes above … the little strap makes heels feel so much more secure and does wonders for your balance I find! And I reckon the old wives tale about the strap breaking the clean lines of your leg and making them look short is rubbish. Maybe if they’re further up by the ankle they might, but not across the front of the foot like that.
Leopard print – bit of a classic for a pinup wardrobe right? They are gorgeous with red accents, but that can be a wee bit limiting, so if you’re not planning on a ridiculously large shoe wardrobe (why not, I ask?!) then I would stick with the plainer versions. Although, just to prove my point … how cute are these?
I’m personally not a fan of wedges – they feel so unstable and rocky and ankle-breaky to me, but I know lots of girls love them and they are very practical. A lovely gingham pair would be soooo cute for summer.
or these …
Or you could go for a real tiki heel like these (and btw: this is me including shoes I don’t personally fancy – you’re welcome) …
Flats or small heels …
Now if you’re not a fan, or simply can’t wear heels to work or otherwise, you could try out some of the flatter styles. B.A.I.T (But Another Innocent Tale) Footwear do lots of them and they are very popular with pinups. As I said earlier, I find B.A.I.T shoes kinda ugly to be honest, but I do fully appreciate why others don’t, and I must admit I am strangely drawn to them and wouldn’t be at all surprised if a pair magically pop into my wardrobe at some stage this year!
The thing I do rather like about B.A.I.T is the pretty pastel colourways they come in, as well as the more standard black, red etc. They look especially fabulous with some of the Pinup Girl Clothing dresses. So here are a couple of my non-favourite, favourites:
For the record, the colour of these is Fairy Pink and they would look super with my Jenny Dancing Horses Jenny skirt – doncha think?
Bettie Page do some pretty shoes too – especially if you like the pastel colours which I rather do, and although these aren’t flats, they look decidedly easy to walk in and wear, so I’m including them in this section anyway – because I can!
Last but not least, there are ballet flats. I LOVE ballet flats and was lucky enough to score a very special pair off a friend of mine who has a massive collection of Louboutin. These are my Rosella’s in grey flannel with grosgrain trim. TDF.
They actually look great with my Mary Blair Commuter Print Jenny dress, although I do mostly wear that with heels.
If you were really into ballet flats, you could wear actual ballet shoes – which are SOOO beautiful! I wore them all the way through university and I always felt like a little fairy in them. I did keep making holes in the soles though and having to get more all the time, but they were pretty cheap back then (wasn’t everything?!) Dita has Louboutin ones of course.
And – some polkadot heels, because … pink and gold.
And last but not least – cherries never hurt any pinup that I know!
Anyway … there you have it; Mumpty’s roundup of shoes to build your pinup shoe wardrobe. Obviously many of the shoes in these pics are hella-expensive, but you can get reasonably priced versions if you search around – and Pinup Girl Clothing, BAIT and Bettie Page have some great, cheapish shoes that will well and truly fit the bill.
Off you go shopping …
Love and pinup heels …
Well, well, well – it’s been quite a while since I did a MumptyLoves so I thought now would be a good time to pop one in!
Actually, you may have found my blog has been a little on the quiet side lately, but never fear … I am busily working away behind the scenes and March promises to be a cracker – I promise! I will reveal all soon …
♥ My new Nude by Nature lipstick in Demure
Some might say, the perfect nude. I copied this from the lovely Kirsty of Makeup Obsessives fame, and I am very pleased I did. It’s fab and in my opinion, a girl can never really have too many nudes now can she?!
♥ Designer Brands – Hi-Lights Illuminator
This is a great little illuminator I got for free in my goodie bag from the Makeup Obsessives Meet-up (which you can read about here) – I’ve never used one before, but it’s lovely – it just catches the light really nicely and gives you a little glowy highlight on your cheekbones – if you know me, you’ll know I have quite a round face, so it’s nice to have some definition on the old cheek bones!
♥ Nina Proudman – from “Offspring”
I LOVE Nina – she’s hilarious. I love her style, her laugh, her facials – everything. But particularly – her style. It is SO fantastic – so very far away from anything that would suit me personally, but I love it all the same. Actually, I read an interview with Nina recently (well, the actress who plays Nina anyway!) and it said that her “style” is almost another character in the programme. Seriously – it’s that good. If you haven’t watched Offspring – you must! And … Google her fashion. You’re welcome.
♥ The Evelyn dress in yellow and black vintage floral print by Pinup Girl Clothing …
I got this dress for Christmas and for some reason I kept putting off wearing it as I felt it was too long for me and needed to be taken up. Anyway, I tried it on the other day and I don’t know what I was thinking – the length is fine! So I’ve been wearing it – and I love it. So feminine … although probably one of my more OTT dresses for work! One thing I did find I needed to do with it though was to remove the velvet bow on the bodice and move it up to the top of the bodice. That way I can wear a wide-ish belt with it, which I find I need to do as it nips in my waist and counters the fullness of the skirt. Anyone else done that to their Evelyn?
♥ These cushions …
Hahaaa … talk about confusing!
♥ LUSH Angels on Bare Skin Cleanser
This stuff is brilliant – brilliant I say! You just pull a little bit of the kind of clay-like product away; add a bit of water to make it into a paste and then massage it in to your skin. Rinse off and voilá … soft, dreamily clean skin!
♥ The obligatory Louboutins …
Yes – it’s time for another pair of Louboutins … because, well, I can! These are the Corafronts and I would VERY MUCH LOVE to have a pair in my wardrobe. I’m a sucker for red and black, I’m a sucker for hearts and I’m a sucker for patent. So really – I actually need them don’t I – it’s not just that I want them!
And while we’re talking about Louboutins … I found this recently and I think it’s great – and true.
What are your favourite things this week?
♥ GHD Rose Gold Special Edition straightener
You may or not know that I am a massive fan of GHD products – they really are the only hair products that work for me. So of course I was insanely jealous when my sister told me she was getting this for Christmas! And don’t worry – I haven’t blown the surprise – she knows! This is the sister who would spend from April (her birthday) to December telling us what she wanted for Christmas; and from December to April, telling us what she wanted for her birthday! Anyway … how beautiful is that straightener? It makes my plain old black one look positively vanilla!
♥ Elizabeth Taylor’s diamonds
Everything about Liz was glamorous and spectacular really, so it goes without saying that her engagement rings would be the same!
Now THAT ladies, is a ROCK! This was her third engagement ring, and for the record, it was seven times bigger than her first! Liz was a lady who knew what she was doing! This one was from Mike Todd (her third husband) and was a 29.4 carat emerald-cut stunner. Emerald cuts are my absolute favourite … always have been. My engagement ring is an emerald-cut diamond, but sadly it’s not 29 carat! Elizabeth Taylor had possibly the most impressive jewellery collection of any woman, ever. I love that this was the way she felt about her jewellery collection though:
I’ve never thought of my jewellery as trophies. I’m here to take care of it and to love it, for we are only temporary custodians of beauty.” —Elizabeth Taylor
I have decided that each of seven engagement rings are all so stunning they are deserving of a mention in Mumpty Loves for the next few weeks – not to mention the other little trinkets she was given for no other reason than simply being Elizabeth Taylor! Stay tuned …
♥ This old photo of the slide at the Hamilton Lake
Any of you over a certain age will surely remember this slide at the Hamilton Lake. I remember when we were little we used to go there a lot and it seemed absolutely HUGE to my six year-old eyes! And so, so much fun! I was lucky to be blessed with a pretty awesome childhood – thanks Mum and Dad! This photo was apparently taken round about 1966 (before I was born by the way!)
♥ Eartha Kitt’s original version of the Christmas classic, “Santa Baby”
Originally recorded by the late and truly great, Eartha in 1953 in New York with Henry René and his orchestra, this is one of my favourite EVER Christmas songs. And look at Eartha … wasn’t she a stunner? They don’t make ’em like that any more!
♥ My daughter’s Christmas tree …
Before you ask … yes, I have given in and she has her Christmas tree up in her bedroom before the 1st of December! But to be honest, I don’t really care because our little family loves Christmas so much that we figure we might as well stretch it out …
This isn’t really the best picture of it … I haven’t put the lights on properly yet and it was photographed in the semi-dark. But OMG – it is SOOO pretty and we have adorned it with turquoise and pink decorations. Love it. We bought the little silver, sparkly Eiffel Tower today – I couldn’t resist buying two; one for the family tree as well! Do you add to your Christmas decorations each year or do you stick with the same ones each year?
♥ LUSH “Bubble Gum” Lip Scrub
I love this stuff … it’s super-good for exfoliating your lips and keeping them soft – especially if you’ve been wearing a slightly drying lipstick like the Lime Crime Velvetines for example (did I mention I LOVE those Velvetines?!) It would make the perfect little gift to slip into someone’s Santa stocking I would think. (NZ$12.50) And it smells delicious of course!
♥ Happy 10th Birthday Pigalle!
As usual, I am rounding up Mumpty Loves this week with the Louboutin! At the moment the internet is being flooded with Pigalle photos as the Pigalle turns ten years old and Louboutin are celebrating! And so they should be – they are a stunning, very classic shoe and all the different variations mean there is a pair for every occasion, for EVERYONE – although I’m told they’re not particularly comfortable. However, Louboutin himself has said he doesn’t design his shoes for comfort – they are designed for the woman who wants to stand out! He’s clearly never worn a pair of his own shoes for an extended period of time. But still … he’s a brilliant man and women all over the world are happy to suffer in silence. so let’s not complain!
Anyway … these are a killer pair of Pigalle if you ask me – turquoise, spikes and that gorgeous red sole for the ultimate pop of colour – I would suffer for these (likely not in silence though!)
What are your favourite things this week?
♥ Lime Crime Velvetine – Red Velvet – get on mah lips!
I ran out of my Red Velvet Velvetine ages ago and it has been out of stock all round the world for SOOOOOO long! Anyway … it has finally become available again and as soon as I saw the notification I was on my little computer shopping away like crazy! As we speak my Red Velvet is winging its way to my eager little lips! Squeeeeee! I love this stuff so much – it is the most stay-onny lip stuff ever (I’m not sure what to call it – it’s not really a lipstick, it’s not a gloss and it’s oh-so-much more than a stain.) Anyway … I wrote a review about it here. But if you don’t have time to read it – here’s a summary: buy some! I got mine from www.makeup.co.nz
♥ Betsey Johnson Hearts & Lockets necklace
Isn’t this fab?! Another gorgeous Betsey piece to add to my collection. Her jewellery is always such happy, funky stuff and the quality is great – especially for the price. This one is extra-cool in that all the lockets actually open, meaning I can put photos in them! And I do so love Betsey’s trademark packaging of hot pink satin with leopard print accents!
♥ The Ginger Kisses
Sister act, The Ginger Kisses, are one of my most favourite burlesque acts; they’re gorgeous, exuberant, funny, sexy, raunchy and talented! As individual performers, they’re wonderful, but when they perform together like they did recently in Miss Bettsy Rose Lee’s Bountiful Bachelorette Bash, a certain magic happens! Check out their Facebook page here.
♥ My quick-fire Q&A with Teer Wayde
Teer is my pinup idol, so I was SOOOO excited to have her on my blog. So much so that I’m putting her in my MumptyLoves so I can show off again! Click here for the Q&A with Teer.
♥ My crazy burlesque class (and my crazy burlesque teacher!)
One week it’s “Cruisy Sexy”; the next it’s Bumps & Grinds and walking like ducks (well, that’s what it felt like anyway!) What happens at burlesque, stays at burlesque right?! Well not really actually – I have a lot of laughs practicing at home some weeks! Anyway … this week’s class was one of my favourites ever … a crazy, funny, sexy combination of bumps, grinds and struts … my three favourite burlesque things! Oh … and here is my burlesque teacher, Ms Tittle Tattle, featuring in our local newspaper. Isn’t she gorgeous?!
Because … yum! And the good thing about coffee is that although it’s awesome all by itself; it’s so often enjoyed in the company of friends and family, and that is just cool.
And to round up MumptyLoves again this week … the Louboutins!
These are the Pigalle Plato’s from the Spring 2013 collection. These would be FABULOUS to have in one’s wardrobe, doesn’t one think? So very versatile with the red AND the hot pink!
What are your favourite things this week?
♥ Nivea In-Shower Smooth Lotion Skin Conditioner
As Kirsty from Makeup Obsessives would say, “I bloody love this stuff!” And I do! I got it as part of my Black Box package and so far, I am very impressed. You know how you get out of the shower, dry yourself off, then mositurise your legs, arms etc – and then you to wait for a while before you put your clothes on because the moisturiser is still a bit sticky? Nuh-uh – not with this stuff. It’s kind of a weird concept, but basically what you do is use your normal body wash in the shower, rinse it off and then in the shower, while you’re still wet, you apply this stuff (and it’s goes on SO easily) and then rinse it off, hop out of the shower (or you can just get out – you don’t have to hop!) and dry yourself. Done! No waiting around; no sticky legs; you just get dressed and you’re good to go! Perfect! And it really does moisturise too, which is handy given that’s what it claims to do!
♥ Bombshell Burlesque (Glamilton) This is my burlesque class and I LOVE spending my Wednesday evenings at class – I get to dress up and strut around posing and having lots of fun with my fellow class members – and, of course, our brillant Head Mistress, Ms Tittle Tattle. If you’re in Glamilton, come along … you will love it! If you have always been curious about burlesque but haven’t tried it – I urge you to get along to a local class and give it a go. I swear there’s a good chance it will change your life. I wrote a post about how it changed mine here. Mwahhhh!
♥ Chocolate Box Sparkling Shiraz
Now I’m not normally a red wine drinker, but a couple of years ago we were given a bottle of this as a gift, along with the promise that it would “totally convert you.” And my goodness, it did! I still don’t drink red wine, but I do drink this! It’s an Australian sparkling shiraz made from premium Barossa grapes and in my professional sommelier’s opinion, it’s YUM! (That’s a technical wine term!) They’re billing it as the perfect wine to accompany your Christmas turkey and ham and also as the perfect drop to leave out for Santa. Sorry Santa … it won’t be hanging round on the mantelpiece at our place! Retail price is approx. NZ$29.99
♥ Miss Bettsy Rose Lee’s Bountiful Bachelorette Bash! Over the weekend I was lucky enough to be “Door Dolly” at local Glamilton diva, Miss Bettsy Rose Lee’s Bountiful Bachelerette Bash! It was a fabulous show and a wonderful way to celebrate her last few days of single life! Miss Bettsy has allowed me to write about it on next week’s blog, so I won’t say any more *wink* (Photo by David Rowe Photography)
Sarah von Bargen’s “Yes and Yes – because Yes is more fun than No” is one of the most enjoyable blogs I follow. I’ve followed her for about three years now and that’s a testament to a) her content; b) her professionalism and sense of humour and c) the frequency with which she posts. Sarah is a very talented writer and an international traveler – check her blog out for awesome features like “True Story: …” Web Time Wasters, Network of Nice and lots of cool discussions on travel, business, blogging, fashion, food and just being generally awesome!
♥ My “local” – Punnet CafeLocated just five minutes from home, Punnet Cafe is an essential stop on my way to work and has been for a good couple of years now! They serve great coffee and food; it’s a gorgeous place (and even better now having undergone extensive renovations recently) and the staff and owners are awesome! Check out their Facebook page here … this weekend they’re having their big Strawberry Farm Festival to celebrate the new season; the strawberries being available and the opening of the new playground and renovations. There is also a truly fabulous grocery and collectible store as part of the complex – their Facebook page is here.
And to round up MumptyLoves this week … the Louboutins!
The Justinodo by Christian Louboutin – aren’t they gorgeous?! The bows are killer and I love the gold accent at the back.
What are your favourite things this week?
♥ Trilogy Rosapene night cream and Rosehip Antioxidant Oil My skin was so.bloody.relieved when this little duo arrived in the mail! Since I ran out of moisturiser about a month ago, I’ve been dabbling in all sorts samplers and testers and my skin finally rebelled and said “Give it up Mumpty and get me the good stuff, or you’ll pay – I’ll bust out the wrinkles.” And at first I didn’t listen, and so the wrinkles got busted out – and my goodness, I got that Rosapene business back on my bathroom shelf quick-as-a-wink! At my age, if your skin gets dry, you might as well send those wrinkles a written invite to come and stay!
Thankfully the Trilogy Rosapene night cream, in conjunction with the Rosehip Antioxidant Oil, sorted out my skin’s woes and it’s now feeling all properly hydrated and plump again; thus minimising my
♥ This iconic Chanel “charms handbag” … Now I wouldn’t normally feature a Chanel handbag on here because I am an extremly loyal Louis Vuitton fan (!) however this vintage one is beautiful and I am a sucker for charmy things like this! Chanel really do create some lovely handbags and this collector’s piece is certainly one of them. Which is your favourite charm? Mine is the Chanel No. 5 perfume bottle, followed closely by anything with a crown.
♥ Our daughter has turned ten and this was her birthday cake! Every year I decorate our daughter’s birthday cake in whatever theme she chooses; in the past she’s had piggys, Shrek, In the Night Garden, daisies, The Faraway Tree – all sorts! This year, she made it suuuuper-difficult by wanting not only owls, but Olaf and Lego as well! While I’m not actually 100% happy with any of the elements, I think overall it was a kinda cool cake and since I was up till 1am making it, I went a little easy on myself for Olaf being a slightly “Halloween” version of himself! Anyway, she loved it, so that’s me done and dusted for another year on the cake-decorating front! Do you decorate your own cakes? It’s kinda fun/kinda “I-wish-I-had-never-gone-there-in-the-first-place-and-set-up-that-expectation” right?!
♥ L’oreal Skin Perfection Advanced Serum I got this a) on the recommendation of Kirsty Leigh at Makeup Obsessives; and b) because it has pretty pink packaging! (Check out Kirsty’s cute vlog on the full range here.) Although I’ve only been using it for a week and therefore probably shouldn’t even mention it yet, I’m going to ‘cos I live life on the edge ya’ know! Anyway … I like it; it glides on easily and leaves my skin feeling super-soft. Tick from me (and tick from Kirsty too by the way!)
♥ Curves to Kill Curves to Kill is the wonderfully visual blog of Teer Wayde, a completely beautiful plus-size model and blogger from Melbourne, Australia. I’ve been following Teer’s blog for a while now and stylistically it’s gorgeous. She does some stunning photo shoots as well as providing well-researched reviews for pinup babes. I highly recommend you check her out.
♥ My blog post on what I’d buy if I had $800 to spend at Sephora … OK … so I’m self-promoting, but let’s face it, if you’re reading this, you may well have already read my post! And I like my post – it had pretty cool things in it. If you haven’t already, read it here.
And finally … the Louboutins! I love this photo so much that I had to include it. Now are these “killer heels” or what?!
What are your favourite things this week?
